A bucks party is a party held for the Buck (groom) usually the bachelor is given a party before his wedding, usually to give him a last chance to do things he knows his fiancé wouldn’t be happy about, or more likely, to hang out with his buddies (who themselves are often members of the wedding party.)
This party is like none other. It usually goes over the top and includes things not seen at the usual party or social gathering (often there is too much alcohol and, today, lots of gambling.) It may also include a trip to a local strip club or even bringing a stripper to the location of the party. Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.’s “Kick Ass” series for Marvel Comics is the inspiration for the film. “Kick Ass” pops into a movie industry disarrayed with its own cultivated hype, gimmicks as well as idea deficiency, and crushes all expectations in its aftermath. “Kick Ass” has no interest in being labeled “good.” It aspires to be great and has the chops to be original, too. “Kick Ass” has achieved the impossible in this done-to-death genre: it’s all about the unexpected.
“Kick Ass” keeps it simple, but not at the expense of the viewers, and that is the real visual joy in it all. Drive the characters to cool action instead of simply allowing things to happen to them a la Michael Bay. Despite Dave’s mundane existence, they emit a wry sort of cool. As opposed to being a man possessed with phenomenal drive or ambition, this is just the guy next door doing the things we’d like to do. Dave needs a girl. He is looking to be cool. You believe the bad guy. Hit Girl brings home a stunning routine straight out of Jackie Chan’s Hong Kong that wows us like no big-screen chase ever before. The film grabs from a variety of movies that didn’t quite “click” and churns those elements into a finely balanced brew.
It gives the impression of a sort of melding of “Spider Man” and “Kill Bill.” It offers the usual “kid-deals-with-real-life” aspect as the Peter-Parkerish “nobody” Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) fantasizes about a life greater than his own humdrum teen existence. Eventually, as is common among this age group, he realizes that the best way to change the works is by donning a super-suit and facing down the bad guys. Just as we begin to embrace the notion that this won’t work and he’s heading toward an ass kicking, he learns to improve his odds and becomes aware that he’s not alone in his quest.
This leads us to over-the-top side of the film, which is best exemplified by the latest comic book favorite, “Hit-Girl.” The infectious delight of her operatic, homicidal character brings a spaghetti western appeal to the part that can’t help but perk up the audience.

As is evident in any James Cameron film, acting is often secondary to the stunning visuals. Not this time. Nicolas Cage resurrects past acting glories by bring home larger-than-life eccentricity shot through and through with a little melancholy. Chloe Moretz joins him in what is sure to be a memorable first role. Aaron Johnson’s job is hardest. He takes on the movie like he owns the material and is bolstered by a cast in which even the smallest roles have depth and balance. The ensemble is great. A gang of renegade and disparate acting styles comes together to form the perfect scaffolding for the film’s tongue-in-cheek style.
“Kick Ass” offers both the dazzle of a terrific thrill-ride while insisting on drawing you in to ride the wave and leave the theater on a high note. It doesn’t rely on gimmicks and formulas; instead it breaks the mold, tosses convention out the window and lets you be pleasantly surprised with references to movies you love. It’s far more than a movie; “Kick Ass” stands to establish a standard, one that promises more films in the genre with great heart and intellect.

The soundtrack is due for release as a single on April 12, 2010 in the UK. Pop singer Mika will be produced by RedOne, best known for his work with Akon, Lady Gaga and a number of established names.
